At the beginning of Macbeth we talked about how no one wanted to see the act they were committing. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth called upon the night multiple time so they wouldn't be able to see the murder they were committing. No one in the play has died with the light on, everyone has died alone in the dark in some horrible way.
I think this is important because it shows the consequences of someone actions if they don't really think it through enough. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth don't want to see their actions and just assume everything will be okay, its almost as if seeing the murder would make them realize the horrible deed they've just committed. Their whole country is going under and their surprised it is. I think this is just a lesson about how bad your life can get if you don't think about your actions.

Macbeth
Macbeth: “Upon my head they placed a fruitless crown, / And put a barren sceptre in my gripe.”
Macbeth is talking about how he has no children to inherit his thrown that hes basically given up his life, soul, and sanity for. He is realizing hes paved this new path for Banquos kids and is now noticing the huge fault in his plan. This line is foreshadowing his planning to murder Banquo and his family. This is a big part in the play because it shows how insane Macbeth is becoming, hes willing to kill even his own best friend.
Lady Macbeth:"Yet I do fear thy nature;
It is too full o’ the milk of human kindness
To catch the nearest way; thou wouldst be great,
Art not without ambition, but without
The illness should attend it.’
Lady Macbeth says this to Macbeth while persuading him to kill the king. She is saying she fears he wont be strong enough to commit the murder, and is basically telling him if he doesn't kill him hes just not a man. This quote is important because it gives readers an insight into Lady Macbeth's twisted mind, she is manipulating her nice husband and guilting him into murdering one of his friends just so that she can be queen and have the luxuries of being at the top of the Scottish Hierarchy.

Jazzfest
This past weekend I went to Jazzfest in New Orleans; It was my first real time going to a concert and I was really excited. Although I wasn't prepared for the amount of sun I would get I still had a great time. Jazzfest, as it was described to me by an older woman waiting for Vampire Weekend, is a melting pot of the worlds cultures squished into a hectic week to entertain the tourists. I liked this description because its true in more ways than you'd think, because whatever way you look at it we're all tourists.
The man I met from Zimbabwe was a tourist enjoying his short time in America, and I was just a tourist enjoying the culture he brought from his home. We all came to listen to music and to enjoy what everyone has to offer. No one started any fights, no one was hurt, because we were all there for the same reason, to be tourists in a different world even if we never really left home, and to enjoy each others company. In short I loved Jazzfest, I got to see some of my favorite bands like the Avett Brothers, Vampire Weekend, and Royal Teeth. I met new people I'll never forget and hopefully found a new tradition I can look forward to every year.

Response - If you are in a position of power, you are happy.
I agree with this statement but only when it comes to power over yourself, the ability to be confident in who you are and have the mental strength to be able to choose whats best for your well being. When you're the one in control of your life and feelings then I think that's when people are happiest, you're not second guessing yourself in fear that other people won't like your decision.
Response - Women are more compassionate and less violent than men.
I completely disagree with this. I believe all humans no matter what gender, are capable of the same amount of compassion. Gender has nothing to do with compassion or levels of violence, people just think that because of the certain gender rolls men and women are forced into. I have known men as violent as women, and women as compassionate as men. It all depends on the individual.

Walking Disaster
This song is about a lot of things, but as a whole, its about growing up and how terrible it is. During the first verse the writer uses end rhyme to emphasize a point hes making, which is how repetitive his life and relationship with his parents is. Its unchanging and its not necessarily a good thing.
I'm sure everything's the same:
Mom and Dad both in denial,
an only child to take the blame.
The writer uses symbolism to describe himself, saying "this city's buried in defeat", showing himself or his home as this huge part in his life that will forever be lost in the negative memories and failed attempts to change anything. This rhyming and symbolism makes me see this song as angry, despite the songs rather laid back (I say that loosely) sound. He uses blank verse to show an irregularity in the song, among the repetition he throws in a verse that symbolizes a change in his life that he has been trying to make.
